Kristen Stewart and Martin Scorsese in the special lineup for the 2024 Berlinale
This year’s program of Berlinale Specials, the out-of-competition concert section of the Berlinale, will include a pair of high-octane action films: the crime thriller directed by Rose Glass Love lies bleeding Starring Kristen Stewart, and a Korean thriller Round: Punishment From director Heo Myung Haeng.
Love lies bleedingwhich co-stars Anna Baryshnikov, Dave Franco, Katie M. O’Brien, Ed Harris, and Jena Malone, will have its international premiere in Berlin after screening at Sundance later this month. Round: PunishmentChampionship Train to Busan Breakout Don Lee will have its world premiere in Berlin.
Other highlights include the Berlinale, which was unveiled on Monday Shikonthe latest drama by Israeli director Amos Gitai (Kadosh); Documentary project Turn in the woundfrom acclaimed New York author Abel Ferrara (Bad lieutenant), about life in Kiev since the beginning of the war in Ukraine; And Supersexan Italian Netflix drama inspired by the life of notorious porn star Rocco Siffredi, who plays The eight mountains Actor Alessandro Borghi. All three shows will have their world premiere in Berlin. As you will Box manA new drama by Japanese director Jakuryu Ishii (A maze of dreams).
French documentary director Nicolas Philibert Ali Al-Mu’tasim It won the Best Film award in Berlin last year, and returns to the German capital with a film out of competition Ibn Rushd and Rosa Parkswhich was designed as a companion piece to the Golden Bear winner.
Other documentaries that have received special Berlinale treatment include: Made in England: The Films of Powell and Pressburger, directed by David Hinton and narrated by Martin Scorsese, about legendary British directors Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger; Agnes Lisa Wegener and Sissy Malay The empty tombA look at the efforts made by Tanzanian descendants of those killed by German colonists in East Africa in the nineteenth century to recover the remains of their ancestors from Germany; And Exercise – on Documenta 14from Dimitris Athiridis, an 840-minute (!) documentary about curator Adam Zemczyk’s creation of the Documenta 14 art exhibition in 2017.
Berlin will reveal its full competition program on Monday, January 22. The seventy-fourth session of the Berlinale will be held from February 15 to 25.
