Merry Christmas Movie Review: Stunning Katrina Kaif, Vijay Sethupati give a solid start to the new year | Movie Review News
It was in a city called Bombay. A refreshing Christmas Eve. Two lonely strangers.Shriram Raghavan’s Merry Christmas A solid start to the new year with what promises to be a harrowing combination of nostalgia and romance, intrigue and suspense.
Few filmmakers are able to create fragments of the past in such a loving and authentic way. Shriram Raghavan is one such person. The date hasn’t been revealed, but it’s definitely in the past. There is an unrestrained festive atmosphere, cars full of cheerful makers parked low on the streets, dimly lit light bulbs criss-crossing the residential streets, and bright red spaghetti served by girls wearing Santa hats. A restaurant, an elderly man brandishing a strong homemade wine, and the famous South Bombay cinema welcoming patrons in its dark interior. Anything can and does happen.

Albert (vijay sethupati) and Maria (Katrina Kaif) don’t actually meet cute in the classic girl-boy way. This is a series of livelier, more mature bumps into each other that will make you grin and say, “Here we go again.” In fact, I couldn’t stop smiling during the first hour of the two-hour “Merry Christmas.” For when Albert returned to Bombay for the first time in seven years, he watched Maria struggle to hold back her sleepiness. A little girl and a giant teddy bear appear again and again until her daughter invites her daughter into the house, and everything is just like a dream and magical.
Merry Christmas movie trailer:
The corpse stiffening in the armchair stopped the commotion. More people begin to flock to the frame — Sanjay Kapoor as a stranger who thinks he might get lucky with a nice woman, Vinay Pathak as a police officer on the scene, Pratima Kazmi as a suspicious colleague, in a walk-on role. Radhika Apte and Ashwini Kalsekar — things loosen up a little bit, which is also a very Raghavan thing, and once the set-up hits the pitch, it’s this flat part. But a well-judged climactic curveball, also typical of the director, stiffens all the plot and we’re back on our toes. What happens next?
The post-interval slump is certainly a problem, but it’s not the definitive problem. Because from the moment they walk down the street in unison, exchanging warm glances and building trust, I know that all good things will happen to these two who have gone through so much in search of love. Because we are happy.
They are an unlikely pair, but they overcome some difficulties and make things work. Katrina Kaif always hinted that she could be an actor even under all those pancakes and bumps (remember her in ‘Zero’?). Grind makes us believe her Maria, with her red lips and her seductive dress changes. Is she as innocent as she pretends to be? And Albert, played by Vijay Sethupathi, is absolutely wonderful, perfectly balancing admiration and compassion as he sways and sways and embraces us in response to his beloved Maria. I might watch the movie again just for this pas de deux.
