Seth Rogen’s Point Gray Pictures Signs First Look Deal with Universal – The Hollywood Reporter

Point Gray Pictures, the powerhouse production company run by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg and James Weaver, has signed a first-look deal with Universal Pictures.

Details of the deal are being kept in a purple haze, but it is being described as a traditional film agreement where Point Gray will produce films across different genres.

The company previously had a content deal with Lionsgate, an agreement signed in 2019, and before that with production company Good Universe. Point Gray’s TV deal will remain with Lionsgate, sources say.

Point Gray and Universal have worked together before. The banner has produced comedic hits Neighbourand its sequel, both of which Rogen starred in, as well as highly regarded comedies Good boys And profitable Blockers.

“Seth, Evan and James have developed their own brand of filmmaking,” Donna Langley, NBCUniversal Studio Group chairman and chief business operations officer, said in a statement. “Whether we’re watching their stories about the Teenage Turtles, anthropomorphic grocery stores, or foul-mouthed sixth graders who make very bad decisions, they always manage to blend Point Gray’s signature gritty humor with humanity and heart.”

The Point Gray trio spoke about the deal announcement in their usual style.

“Becoming newly ordained Knights of the Kingdom of Lady Donna Langley is an honor and privilege we do not take lightly,” Rogen, Goldberg and Weaver said in a statement. “We pledge to win the big box office battles alongside (Universal executives) Peter Kramer and Eric Byers and the rest of our partners at Universal, and we will keep Universal’s coffers duly overflowing.”

Point Gray is coming off the successful revitalization of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series, having led the way this summer. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem For Paramount. The animated film proved a hit with critics and audiences alike, grossing over $181 million worldwide. The company is also behind this summer Boys: Gen Va spin-off from their award-winning comic book Boys From Prime Video.

With the Point Gray deal, Universal appears to be putting a fair amount of chips on comedies of all kinds. The studio already has first-look deals with Lord Miller, the banner run by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Judd Apatow’s Apatow Productions.
