From Citadel to Aakhri Sacha, 9 web series that lacked spark and excitement
In terms of web shows, 2023 was a fantastic year. Some of our favorite web series were Kaala Paani, Farzi, The Crown, Bambai Meri Jaan and many more. However, there were a few who did not live up to our expectations.
Let’s take a look at them here:
1. Pari tooth
Considering that vampire fiction is under-explored in India, Tooth Pari had a lot of potential to grow into something more. The poor writing and lack of poignant high points made it somewhat underwhelming.
Where to watch: Netflix
2. Citadel
Citadel, Priyanka Chopra’s big-budget show, tried to reach James Bond levels but failed. The narration jumps around so often that it confuses the audience because the scenes were monotonous.
Where to watch: Prime Video
3. Trial
All we need to enjoy the courtroom drama is some well-written dialogues and exciting scenes, which The Trial lacked. It became tiring to watch as Kajol couldn’t strike a note as a lawyer and the show was too slow for everyone.

4. Commando
The popularity of the Commando franchise was primarily attributed to Vidyut Jammwal. Viewers didn’t like the spin-off of the show, this time starring Adah Sharma and Prem Paria. Overall, Commando lacked what it needed to make the show a success, both in terms of casting and story.

5. Ji Karda
Jee Karda, starring Tamannah Bhatia, is a meandering romantic comedy that is only mildly entertaining, but noticeably misses the complexities of love and is over-dramatic.
Where to watch: Prime Video
6. An idol
According to popular belief, The Idol is a show that seems more concerned with pushing boundaries and being controversial than telling a compelling story.
Where to watch: Jio Cinema
7. Pop Town?
Pop Town? It turned out to be only an unsatisfying and laughable comedy. Even with a talented cast that included Satish Kaushik, Johnny Lever, Rajpal Yadav and Kunal Kemmu, the show was a complete waste of their potential.
Where to watch: Hotstar
8. Mumbai Diaries
Season 2 is a potentially good start and picks up where Season 1 left off with the devastating rains that hit Mumbai in 2009. Mumbai Diaries switches from character to character, each with their own story, but the show has failed to sustain itself. Viewers are engaged or maintain a steady pace. Instead of capturing the intrigue of the topic – the flood – they concentrated more on individual accounts.
Where to watch: Prime Video
9. Aakhri satch
2018 Burar fact in Delhi is discussed in Aakhri Sach. The Chundavat family had eleven members and they were found dead. The media made the whole country aware of this terrible and amazing tragedy. The show is, unfortunately, a tedious slow burn. Bad script, uneven plot and unfocused direction make the show boring to watch.
