End of 2023: The best Indian movies of the year you probably didn’t see | Bollywood
Making a year-end list is difficult, but it serves as a careful reminder of the films that have surrounded us in recent months. Here, his PC Solanki is fighting the case of a young girl who was assaulted by a self-proclaimed influential divine. Even as the film slips into loud, commercial tropes like courtroom scenes and big showdowns, Vajpayee takes the lead squarely and reins back fiercely when necessary.

Avinash Arun Daware’s beautifully realized drama, set in the Konkan region of Maharashtra, follows a middle-aged woman named Shailaja Patankar (played by the enchanting Shefali Shah) who is diagnosed with early-onset dementia. This is a record of an unusual vacation. She is accompanied by her husband, played by renowned lyricist Swanand Kirkire. Director Nandita Das has chosen Kapil Sharma to play the lead role in her third feature film after ‘Firaaq’ and ‘Manto’. That decision could have gone horribly wrong. This is the story of a food delivery worker who takes on a new job after being unemployed and having to spend eight months at home due to the pandemic. Sharma rises to the challenge and sheds all his baggage as a star comedian to play Manas. His wife Shahana Goswami is absolutely amazing. Zwigato is a serious and engaging film, one that selects and asks important questions.
