Bollywood: Anurag Kashyap prefers directing to acting in films
Anurag Kashyap is a multifaceted person who wears multiple hats. Besides being a director, producer, presenter and actor, Kashyap has teamed up with Nagraj Popatrao Manjul as a presenter for Vinod Kamulu’s film ‘Kasturi: The Musk’. This is the story of his two children whose parents are experts in manual cleaning.
Kashyap is looking forward to the release of his next directorial project, the neo-noir thriller Kennedy. The film was highly acclaimed at various international film festivals and was also screened at the Kolkata International Film Festival.
Difficulties with low budget films
During an interview with the Free Press Journal, he said: I just learned that this film has already won the coveted National Award but has not had a chance to be released yet. Due to the lockdown when big movies were not released, there was no chance for smaller films to be released. We wondered why the movie wasn’t released yet since it’s such a great movie. ”
“We took it on. My film’s producer Ranjan Singh Kennedy saw the film and then we showed it to Nagraj and Nagraj multiplexed it. All of us Together, we are now ready for release.”

“The film is set in a community of manual scavengers who clean the gutters. So when the children go to school, people feel that the smell of the gutters is emanating from their bodies. They are untouchable. They are treated as people. Kastori has a wonderful smell, so these people are looking for Kastori so that others do not abuse them, ”he added, the presenter.
Anurag agrees that short-term filmmakers need muscle to release their films in theaters. Because big producers can easily take away theaters.
“That battle already exists and will continue to exist. In our country, we make 1,000 movies a year, but we only have 12,000 movie theaters. We can’t do anything.”

Finding a solution that allows smaller films to have enough theaters to release them, he says. “I think the only solution is to start building more movie theaters compared to movies that are scheduled to be released in a yearly manner. There are about 1 million movie theaters in China. We need space. . Our films mainly work on word-of-mouth promotion and hence securing space plays a vital role for our films,” he further explains.
Few people know that Anurag is considered a bad guy in the south. “Yes, I am playing a villain in this south film titled Maharaja. I am co-starring with Vijay Sethupathi and (the film) is being directed by Nithiran Swaminathan. My priorities are It’s about making your own films. I go there as an actor. I like to follow the captain, so I behave like an obedient student,” he concluded.
