Avika Gor starrer Vadhuvu is now available for streaming on Hotstar. The show is based on the Bengali web series Hindu and is directed by Poluru Krishna. Let’s see how it is.

story:

Anjuri Indu’s (Avika Gori) marriage is annulled as her sister elopes with her fiance. Indu and his family are upset over this incident. A year later, Indu married Anand (Nandu). This time too, the marriage is not a smooth sailing affair as someone tries to stop the wedding in one way or another. The situation remains the same even after the Hindu goes to the groom’s house. What was the experience of meeting Indu in the house of husband and wife, what is the series about.

Plus points:

The best part about Vadhuvu is that it has many mysterious characters. One may feel that there is something wrong with a Hindu because of their strange behavior. But because we don’t know what the characters are going to do, we get invested in the show to know the answers.

After a long time, Avika Gori accepted the role of the author. As someone trying to solve a mystery, Avika Gore did a very impressive job. Those emotions in the crucial scenes are brilliant. Vadhuvu’s surprise package is Ali Reza. He gets the lion’s share of screen time and makes the most of the opportunity.

Nandu is doing well in his role and looks like his character will be more prominent in the second part. The makers have made good use of the background score to create a tense atmosphere. The dark texture is the cake. The rest of the actors are decent in their roles.

Minus points:

The start of the show is not good and the first episode is not well timed. This is primarily due to poorly written dialogues. Scenes that were supposed to be serious lacked the desired impact. The character development could have been done better.

Pacing could have been better. Despite its short run, Vadhuvu feels stretched at times due to a few redundant scenes. Although the director tried to hold back throughout, there were no moments to take the show to the next level.

After all, we are left with not one but many cliffhangers. While the idea is to keep the audience looking forward to the second season, it’s disappointing at the same time as everything is reserved for the 2nd installment. It would have been nice if the creators had made some revelations in the first part.

Technical aspects:

Sriram Maddury’s background score and Ram K Mahesh’s cinematography go hand in hand to create the right mood for this suspense thriller. Production values are good. More attention should be paid to dialogues and editing.

Director Poluru Krishna has done a decent job with Vadhuvu. The features are interesting, but the slow pace somewhat dampens the impact. Hence, the show manages to impress in parts, but not as a whole. The climax is also not satisfying.

Verdict:

Overall, Vadhuvu is a passable show with a bunch of mysterious characters. Avika Gore and Ali Reza played well and there were some interesting moments. However, the series fails to be a satisfying suspense thriller due to its slow pace and repetitive scenes. The beginning and ending are not good and there are many unresolved questions. If you are fine with these flaws, you can try Vadhuvu.
