Rohan Sippy, who produced ‘Brahmastar’, believes such films may not work now: ‘It’s important to provide an experience for the audience’ Bollywood News

filmmaker rohan sippyHe is the director of films such as “Kuchi Na Kaho” (2003). Bluff master! (2005) and recently directed Dum Maaro Dum (2011) duranga 2the second installment of Zee5’s Duranga starring Gulshan Devaiah and Amit Sadh.

In this interview with indianexpress.com, the filmmaker talks about why he has been staying away from directing feature films lately and which genres he would like to dabble in. He also talks about how he still benefits from the direction of his father Ramesh Sippy. Good intentions.

As for why she made the shift from directing a feature film to being a showrunner for a web series, Lohan said she hasn’t stopped making films and is waiting for the right opportunity. In the meantime, he is working on “creatively challenging” content on the web, where he gets a chance to work with actors like Pankaj Tripathi.

he says: “I don’t think we stopped making films. I’ve been watching shows for a long time and when Doordarshan and satellite TV started, there was a great tradition of weekly TV. Then all of a sudden Everything went away and everything became daily TV. So there’s a big role for this kind of serialized content that we’ve seen in the last five to seven years. A different kind of actor to work with. It gives you the opportunity to tell a story with layers and nuance. A supporting character in a movie might have two or three scenes, but here they have much more to do. You work with The kind of actors who have the opportunity to work say that I would never have had the opportunity to work in a film with someone like Pankaj Tripathi (Director Sippy’s Criminal Justice: Behind Closed Doors). It’s a great medium.”

Lohan is waiting for the right opportunity to make a feature film. “Of course, I would be happy if I could appear in a movie, but I’m seduced by what I see in front of me. In that sense, it’s more challenging than a movie. Producing a show like Duranga 2 is… , it’s like working on three feature films in two and a half months, there’s no room for pressure, you’re working under a lot of pressure.”

Rohan, who was behind several of Abhishek Bachchan’s blockbusters, “Brahmaster!,” says those were “good times in cinema” but that making films now requires a different approach. he says: “It was fun. It was a good time for movies, but the important thing to learn now is to give the audience an experience. A lot of dramas are now available on OTT, so it’s better to do it as a feature now. I don’t know if the music element is very strong or the action element is very strong, but the experience of watching a movie has to be created. I think, but now we see less and less music like that in movies. So, if it’s done well and how the family, from the young kids to the older members, reacts to it and connects to it. I think there’s an opportunity to do that if I can confirm that. So, whatever I do, I want singing and music to be a big part of it.”

When asked if he ever felt pressured and if he ever compared his work with his father Ramesh Sippy’s films like Sholay, Shaun and Saagar, he replied, I’m standing on the shoulders of giants, which has given me opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. If someone is comparing me to him, it’s a great honor. Even if I’m only 1% of his 1%, that’s a huge compliment to me. So I don’t think it’s pressure. Perhaps he was considered that way 30 years ago. The more time I spend meeting people who worked with him, the more I want to tell him that this business is not about relationships, it’s about goodwill, and it’s great to be able to profit from it. I hope to continue to convey his legacy as it grows, his values as a director, and how he approached film and life. It’s fun to try to keep it going and the rest will only be told when the media asks. Otherwise, it’s not on my mind. ”
