Bollywood horror films filmed in Poundbury and Dorchester
Production company 10+1 Productions began filming scenes on Peverell Avenue West yesterday, Friday, November 24, and will begin filming at Dorchester Prison next week.
Although the film has an Indian cast, it is set in England during World War II.
It’s a horror movie where one of the main characters is locked up in a haunted prison.
Azad Iman, director of production and location scout, said: “We are filming a Bollywood film and will be filming at Dorchester Prison for the next two weeks, but this is just the exterior.
“The majority of filming will take place at Dorchester Prison.
“The majority of the filming will take place in prisons and we were looking for local locations to film.
“I’ve been all over this country and to be honest I haven’t found much that compares to Poundbury. This was perfect. The architecture is very unique.”
“This is a horror movie, and in this scene one of the characters is knocking on the door trying to find his sister.
“It’s a completely British story, with some Indian schedules, but mostly takes place in Britain and is set in a World War II prison.
“His second film has a famous singer in it, and all the other actors are up-and-coming.
“It’s not a big deal, it’s not a huge production.”
The former Dorchester Penitentiary, which housed criminals and murderers and also hosted public executions, is now a popular filming location for shows such as: Luther, Enola Holmes 2, and Money.
In recent months, the prison has also been the setting for a four-part ITV drama.Ruth” and Disney+’s 10-part drama “say nothing‘.
Dorset locals will be joining in with the chance to make their Bollywood debut next week.
The production crew is seeking male extras to film at Dorchester Prison from Tuesday, November 28th to Saturday, December 9th.
