Apurva Movie Review: Tara Sutaria headlines a story of predictable brutality and bravery | Bollywood News

The flashbacks about Apurva’s life and engagement with Sid (Dariya Karwa) are meant to help build their characters and love story, apart from giving viewers a break from the violence. . There are some interesting moments between the two, especially in the scene where Apurva and her parents visit Sid’s house to meet Sid before arranging her matchmaking. The two look sweet on screen, but the sparks don’t fly. It affects the emotional connection that could have been made between them, especially the titular protagonist.

The cat-and-mouse game between Apurva and her captors moves to a deserted village lined with empty houses. The setting adds to the atmosphere as Apurva tries to escape through her nightmarish ordeal. With the threat of attack always looming, there are some gripping and tense moments. But it doesn’t help that the storyline is mostly predictable.

The four gangsters in this film are meant to be different in age, personality, and background. But the script doesn’t pay attention to detail or develop these pathetic male characters who take pleasure in tormenting women and see her only as an object of her desire. The film references countless incidents in which men gleefully record sexual abuse with cell phone cameras. But it falls short of its influential commentary on social conditioning, misogynistic thinking, and distorted masculinity. So the characters played by Banerjee and Rajpal Yadav look like cardboard.

Tara Sutaria is expected to do the heavy lifting and carry the film on her shoulders. She is good at certain action scenes where she runs around wearing a pink chikankari kurta and her pajamas and breathes heavily. However, she cannot live up to the demands of her intense emotional scenes.

In terms of subject matter and storytelling, the film is close to NH10, where Anushka Sharma witnessed an honor killing. She struggles to save her husband and herself. She will and in the end she will have her revenge. However, Apurva lacks the layers and nuances of her NH10 (2015). So while some parts are shocking, they are not thought-provoking.
