Supergirl Movie Heats Up With Ana Nogueira Writing ‘Woman of Tomorrow’ – The Hollywood Reporter

James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC film slate continues to move forward.

Ana Nogueira, the actress and playwright now making forays into screenwriting, has been tapped with the pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrowa standalone feature centered around Superman’s Kryptonian cousin developed by DC Studios.

No manager has been attached and Nogueira’s deal was only recently closed.

The project is actually a remake of Nogueira. The writer was quietly set to write a Supergirl movie in 2022 when Warner Bros. The project developed as a spin-off of the lightThen in post-production. flash Sasha Calle featured as the heroine and the hope was to launch another DC film franchise.

Those hopes seemed to be dashed when Gunn and Safran were brought in to oversee the reorganized DC arm. This project came about as new executives focused on creating an entirely new slate, separate from the vision of former DC Films president Walter Hamada. Early this year, Supergirl It was revealed to be part of that list as a project without any connection to flash film. Rather, it was now linked, in title and story, to a mini-comic book series written by Tom King that was published in 2021 and 2022 and sought to redefine the character as more than just a girl version of Superman.

“Superman is a man sent to Earth and raised by loving parents, where Supergirl in this story is a character who grew up on a piece of Krypton,” Gunn explained in a video posted on Twitter at the time. “She’s seen everyone around her die horribly, so she’s a much more stressful character.”

The comic featured Kara Zor-El, also known as Supergirl, who, along with superdog Krypto, becomes involved in a young alien girl’s quest for revenge across the galaxy. DC Studios is keeping the plot of the project under wraps.

Gunn and Safran liked the work Nogueira had done on the previous Supergirl project and quietly brought her back, even giving her an overall writing deal at DC.
