Odia film producer arrested for assaulting female journalist | Indian News
Bhubaneswar’s Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested Odia film producer Tutu Nayak aka Sanjay for allegedly assaulting a woman journalist in the city the previous day.
Nayak was arrested after being detained by police for questioning at a police station in the city. “Based on the statements of the complainant and witnesses and CCTV footage, we found prima facie evidence against the accused. He was therefore arrested and produced before the court,” the police officer said.
Nayak was charged under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 (use of obscene language) and 354 (outraging modesty). He was arrested, police officials said.
He was sent to judicial custody after the district court denied bail.

Nayak allegedly assaulted and slapped a female journalist on Friday when he was deputing her outside a theater here to cover the premiere of an Odia film. She later filed a complaint against the film’s producers.
Journalist unions across Odisha have condemned the film producer’s actions and lodged complaints against him at various police stations. Members of Odisha Women in Media, a forum for women journalists, also lodged a complaint with Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) seeking a fair investigation into the matter.
Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has also registered a suo motu case in this connection and sought a police report on the steps taken within 15 days.
