“I’ve been doing action movies all my life. I’m still new to the industry. It’s tough to keep reinventing yourself all the time. The stakes are higher, the premise, the geography, the budget, the scenery… So it gets harder to reinvent yourself in this field and I feel there’s still a lot to explore,” Shroff told reporters at the film’s press conference here.
The actor, who admires action star Bruce Lee and pop star Michael Jackson, said he is who he is today because of his fans.
“With every movie, I want to prove myself. I want to entertain them more and push myself more. They accepted me as an action hero, and That’s what they expect from me. So I’m just trying to raise the bar with action in all my films,” the actor said.
Director Shroff, who is known for films such as the Baaghi series, War and the Rambo remake, said Ganapath is a different film with a unique worldview on Indian screens.
“What we’re showing is a dystopian world and the story of this Chosen One (his character) bringing peace and order to a world that’s basically split in two,” he said. He added that the film also contains a beautiful love story.
‘Ganapath’ features megastar Amitabh Bachchan in an important character, while Kriti Sanon also collaborated with Shroff in the 2014 hit ‘Hero Panti’.
Mr. Shroff said that unfortunately he could not share screen space with Mr. Bachchan.
“But just being in the same movie as him is a huge honor for me, and it’s a huge honor for any actor to share the screen with a living legend like him. An opportunity like this I’m lucky and grateful to have had it,” he added.
Shroff is overjoyed to reunite with her ‘Hero Panti’ co-star and adds that despite the actor’s success, nothing has changed in her mind.
“Kriti has just won the National Award. In ‘Hero Panti’, I used to say this line, ‘Tabu choti bachi ti’, now she has become a superstar. “I don’t understand why this line is “Abhi, choti bachi ho kya”” became a hot topic.
“It was a great experience working with Kriti Sanon. She hasn’t changed. She’s become such a big star but she’s still the same… We worked together for the first time in nine years. “But it didn’t feel like that. It felt like I just worked yesterday. Nothing has changed.”
“Ganapath”, produced by Baal and Vashu Bhagnani; deepshika deshmukh and Jackie Bhagnani will be released on October 20 in five languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu.
