The Seattle concert will be Wu-Tang and Nas’ second stop on their New York State of Mind tour. The two hip-hop troupes toured the country last year, covering more than 25 cities and hitting venues in Dallas, Oakland, Charlotte and other central cities. Their current tour, featuring De La Soul, hits 32 cities, with stops in Europe, Australia and New Zealand also on the schedule.
A live episode of Amazon Music’s “Rotation Roundtable” will air prior to Wednesday’s concert livestream on Prime Video and Twitch starting at 7pm PT. The Wu-Tang Clan is one of the most famous rap collectives in hip-hop history. Most of the members, including RZA, Method Man, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah, have branched out to find success with solo careers and ventures. This November, the group will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the release of their debut album “Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers).”
One of the most respected MCs to come out of Queens, New York, Nas is in the midst of a career resurgence. Last month, he completed a prolific collaboration with producer Hit-Boy on Magic 3, his sixth album in three years. Their first collaboration, 2020’s “King’s Disease,” won Nas his first career Grammy.
De La Soul is one of the most dynamic groups in hip-hop history. This year has been bittersweet for the group, as co-founder Dave “Trugoy the Dove” Jolicoeur passed away in February at the age of 54. Jolicoeur’s death came just two weeks before the group’s music was set to premiere on streaming services after years of negotiations and legal issues with former label Tommy Boy Records.
The New York State of Mind Tour livestream is one of several events hosted by Amazon Music as part of “50 & Forever.” Mary J. Blige’s Strength of a Woman Festival and Summit and J. Cole’s 2023 Dreamville Festival were also livestreamed for the campaign.
