New on Netflix this week: Top Picks
Awakened the vampire
This children’s series looks like it’s going to be a big hit in the lead up to Halloween. Carmy Henry (Kaileen Angelique Cheung) wakes up to a big surprise on her 13th birthday. That means she was a Vampling. Her human-vampire hybrid child, Carmy, struggles to grow up and understand her mysterious heritage, along with her best friend and sidekick Kev (Nico Ceci). But juggling rehearsals for a middle school musical and avoiding the persistent Dylan Hellsing (Zebastin Borjo) is a much more difficult task than it seems. Does this mean she won’t be able to stand out at school? It’s kind of hard for her to be a vampire-like teenager.

body
Bodies could be one of the most interesting additions to Netflix in the future. It follows the repercussions of a unique crime spanning centuries. His four detectives, separated by 150 years but bound by a single mystery, try to unravel the clues behind a murder that occurs not once but four times. From Jack the Ripper’s London to today and his journey to the eerie wastes of 2050, these cunning crime solvers chase down timeless clues. The time travel and murder really raise the stakes a bit, and this series looks ambitious enough to bring some thrills to this month’s spooky offering.

Captain Razorhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix
This animated series based on the Far Cry: Blood Dragon video game looks as sleek and stylish as its inspiration. In the 1992 retro-future version of the United States, now known as Eden, the country is filled with lies and corruption. Supersoldier Dolph Razorhawk (Nathaniel Curtis) is betrayed by his boyfriend Alex Taylor (Boris Hiestand) and finds himself in the hands of Supermax’s mysterious director. There, he is forced to lead a ragtag team in a dangerous covert operation. His neon-filled homage to the early ’90s, it combines nostalgia with high-octane action and looks great to boot.

disco inferno
With Halloween just around the corner, Netflix seems to be stepping up its spooky content, but also adding a little extra flair. This looks like his double feature that should get the blood flowing. The intriguing “Disco Inferno” follows a young couple as they head to a disco with great anticipation. Unfortunately, their plans to dance the night away are rudely interrupted by the intervention of some sort of evil force (they didn’t even ask for permission to “interrupt”). Elsewhere, a yoga teacher falls victim to a home invasion and sees his life flash before his eyes.
