Anthology film to be a game changer for Tollywood

Recently, some young Telugu filmmakers have come out with anthology films, which are quite rare in Tollywood and are definitely breaking new ground. Many movies in this format have been released recently.
Writing an interesting screenplay with multiple stories running parallel to each other, new or not, is no small task. Still, a few directors have managed to make such films with parallel stories and multiple characters, and they have also won national awards.

The latest film to join this trend is ‘Prema Vimanam’ featuring kids Devansh and Anirudh Nama, which released in theaters today. “It’s a heartwarming story about two kids who dream of flying, and it’s also a love story between young people,” says producer Abhishek Nama, who is venturing into this genre for the first time. “It’s very difficult to tell multiple stories in one movie, but they came together very well for us,” he added.

The best thing about these movies is that they offer more content than other regular commercial movies and that’s why they are loved more. “This is an interesting genre that gives the filmmaker creative freedom to explore multiple themes in his one film, unlike predictable, single-plot-driven films,” C/O said. Venkatesh Maha, a young director who achieved a huge hit with ‘Kanchelapalem’, says, He further added, “I am very happy that more anthology films are being made in Telugu now. I hope more stars will support this genre.”

Other films in this genre include ‘Gamanam’. ‘Awe’, ‘Samanthakamani’, ‘Manamantha’, ‘Prema Ishq Kaadal’ and Praveen Sattar won Best Telugu for ‘Chanda Mama Kathalu’ out of over 15 films It won the National Award for Best Feature Film.

Director Prashanth Varma went a step further and won two national awards along with a lot of critical acclaim for his film ‘Awe’. Indeed, some Telugu films have raised the bar,” says Prashanth, who broke genre-specific formats and blazed a new trail with ‘Awe’.

“Typically anthology films are different stories in one genre, but I broke the mold by combining stories from five different genres and culminating at some point, which is kind of a game changer,” he said. Point out.

However, Prashanth Varma believes that anthology films will take more time to find the right space in Tollywood like Bollywood and Hollywood as the marketability factor is a big hurdle in T-town. There is. “Unlike the ease with which Telugu films with hero protagonists sell, other genres don’t have such instant buyers,” he says, adding further. “That said, anthology films are the best recipe for newcomers to showcase their talent on a budget, and even established directors may be able to give it a try once or twice in their career. , definitely not for a mid-career manager.

I think it would be a good time if more big stars showed some inclination towards this genre. Because connecting the dots of four or five stories in a movie is a big challenge in itself compared to a single-plot movie. Unlike anthology films, the protagonist is fixed and his subsequent achievements can be easily guessed by the audience,” concludes Prashanth.
