“burial”
The kind of uplifting courtroom drama you used to see in theaters almost every weekend, “The Burial” is about high-profile lawyer Willie Gary (Jamie Foxx) and family mortician Jeremiah O’Keeffe ( The film stars two main characters: Tommy Lee Jones). . Based on a true story, Willy helps Jeremiah file a lawsuit against a huge funeral company that is scamming him out of millions. Foxx brought more laugh lines to the courtroom than expected and commanded the Mississippi courtroom with ease. Sometimes all it takes to make a movie a success is his two leads with undeniable chemistry. Along with Fox and Jones, director Maggie Betts is cooking with gas.
How to watch: “The Burial” is now available on Prime Video.
“reptiles”
First-time director Grant Singer, known for creating music videos for The Weeknd and Taylor Swift, was directed by David Fincher (“Se7en”, “Gone Girl”), who had shot videos for Madonna before moving on to feature films. ) seems to be following in the footsteps of His Reptile, though flawed, is a film full of interesting ideas, aided by the perfect casting of Benicio del Toro as a small-town New England detective. Del Toro is tasked with solving the gruesome murder of a real estate agent, but the first indications are that her husband (Justin Timberlake) is the prime suspect. Del Toro is a master of the thousand-mile gaze, his seemingly expressionless face subtly responding to every detail and intrigue he encounters.
How to watch: “Reptile” is available on Netflix.
“Absolute murderer”
Ever since Kiernan Shipka transcended child stardom with her role as Sally Draper on Mad Men, Kiernan Shipka has continued to get her ticket to the big stage. Here she takes the lead in her feature film with Totally Killer, a horror/comedy that winks at previous works like Back to the Future, Halloween, and Scream without descending into complete self-parody. Plays the lead role for the first time. . Jamie (Shipka) is the daughter of her overprotective parents (Julie Bowen and Lochlyn Munro), who escapes from a Michael Myers-type serial killer in 1987. When her killer returns, Jamie accidentally travels back in time to her past and meets her parents from her time. Until the murderer’s first assault. Shipka is still a rising star, and “Totally Killer” showcases the comedic timing we only glimpsed on “Mad Men.”

“Frasier”
At the beginning of Paramount+’s “Frasier” reboot, Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) enters a soundstage disguised as Logan Airport and sees “Boston Calls…Are You Hearing?” posted on the wall. Stare at the poster that says. That’s a question studio executives hope they can use viewer numbers and subscription dollars to answer firmly. As far as reboots go, 2023’s “Frasier” is half decent. Glamor remains focused on the essence of Frasier, a pretentious psychiatrist whose relationships make you think he might be able to use a little therapy himself. With new supporting characters in a new city, Grammer and the writing staff conjure up every line (or scene) of the show’s original magical moments. However, the absence of the original supporting cast is notable, particularly his brother Niles (David Hyde Pearce), father Martin (the late John Mahoney), and housekeeper Daphne (Jane Leeves). (Read my full review of the “Frasier” reboot here.)
How to watch: “Frasier” is now streaming on Paramount+. CBS will also air his first two episodes on Tuesday, October 17th.
“Our flag means death”
HBO Max (now only on Max) took a worryingly long time to greenlight a second season of “Our Flag Means Death,” a pirate comedy turned stealth love story. So if you’re a fan of the show, don’t wait too long before streaming season 2, lest David Zaslav and co. get caught up in it. Let this talented cast walk the plank. Season 1 follows wealthy aristocrat-turned-captain Stead Bonnet (Rhys Darby, Flight of the Conchords), who goes from complete sailing novice to romantic and fearsome pirate Blackbeard (Taika Waititi, Flight of the Conchords). The movie depicts the story up to Thor: Ragnarok. In season 2, their relationship frays, but could easily be rekindled if the pair can cross the emotional (and literal) ocean that separates them. Complicating matters is Spaniard Jackie (Leslie Jones), who has most of Steed’s crew in her employ and takes a Swede (Boston native Nat Faxon) as her 20th husband. ing.
