JCC announces 8 film festival lineup for 2023 | News, Sports, Jobs

The eight films screening at the 2023 Youngstown Regional Jewish Film Festival range from regional premieres to 75-year-old Oscar winners.

The annual film festival aims to depict a wide range of Jewish life. The films shown are from around the world, giving audiences a glimpse into the Jewish experience.

Unless otherwise noted, all films will be shown at the Youngstown Jewish Community Center, 505 Gypsy Lane.

This year’s lineup is as follows.

l Sunday — “The Prince of Egypt,” the 1998 animated film that won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for “When You Believe,” will be held at 1 p.m. Before that, there will be a family pizza party starting at 12:30 p.m. ‘The Fabelmans’, Steven Spielberg’s autobiographical film nominated for seven Oscars in 2022, will be shown at 4 p.m.

l Tuesday — “10 Questions for Henry Ford,” a documentary about automaker Henry Ford and the anti-Semitic doctrine he published 100 years ago, 7 p.m., Q&A with director Andy Kerscher follows.

l Wednesday — Short film night from 7 p.m.

l Oct. 22 — “Gentleman’s Agreement,” a movie in which Gregory Peck plays a reporter who pretends to be Jewish to investigate anti-Semitism, 4 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave., Youngstown. . It won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1948.

l Oct. 24 — “Reckonings,” a documentary about a group of German and Jewish leaders who sought reparations six years after the Holocaust, 7 p.m.

l Oct. 25 — “Speer Goes to Hollywood,” a documentary about a former Nazi who tried to whitewash his history by having his memoirs turned into a Hollywood movie, airs at 7 p.m.

l Oct. 29 — “Tango Shalom,” a family comedy about a tango dancer and a rabbi who compete in a dance competition, will be shown at 4 p.m. Screening includes a dessert reception.

Tickets are $7 per movie, and passes to see all movies are $30 per person or $45 per couple. Tickets can be purchased in advance online at jccyoungstown.org/filmfest. Advance tickets are required to attend the Sunday Pizza Party.
