In this film, Akshay Kumar played the role of Jaswant Singh Gill, a real-life unsung hero. About the film, he told news agency ANI, “Mission Raniganj is about 71 miners trapped 350 feet underground in a coal mine and Sardar Jaswant Singh Gill, an engineer who was there at the time. They came from France and England, and they all said, “We can’t get them out, there’s nearly trillions of gallons of water underneath, filled with stuffed carbon dioxide.” So they’re dead.
He continued, “Then a man appears who decides I’m going to save them. I don’t know if anyone knows he’s going to die for sure, but he still goes down himself and takes them out one by one, and he himself… ” he added. “What’s important to me is that I made an honest film.”
