Will Ferrell’s weekend DJ set has an ‘old school’ vibe
Will Ferrell is back on campus. The “Old School” actor appeared at the University of Southern California (USC) on Saturday, where he was seen in a video posted on social media standing behind a DJ at what appeared to be a fraternity party. In one video, the actor, wearing a backwards University of Southern California baseball cap and a Trojan jacket, is seen singing “Eye of the Tiger” while surrounded by students enjoying a party during the university’s family weekend. He is shown clapping along to the beat of the song. Ferrell’s son Magnus, with his wife Viveca Paulin, is an aspiring musician and student at the University of Southern California. The actor himself studied sports information at USC before graduating in 1990 and was also an active member of the university’s alumni community. In 2017, Ferrell and Poulin donated the first full scholarship to the University of Southern California’s women’s soccer team, and that same year, Ferrell was awarded an honorary doctorate while delivering the commencement address to graduates. During his speech, Ferrell referenced his 2003 role as Frank the Tank Ricard in the classic comedy, saying, “Running naked through Montrose City in ‘Old School’ was also an accomplishment.” I cracked a joke. Starring Luke Wilson, Vince Vaughn, Jeremy Piven, and Ellen Pompeo, the film follows the characters Ferrell, Wilson, and Vaughn as they try to relive their college days by starting a fraternity on their local campus. Saturday’s surprise DJ set isn’t Ferrell’s first time attending a Magnus-related event. In 2022, the “Talladega Nights” star crashed Magnus’ first live performance in San Diego during a Cancer for College benefit event, appearing on stage to offer “More Cowbell” and performing in 2000. He performed the iconic “SNL” skit of 2018.
