Yes, Disney is about to make a Jabba the Hutt Star Wars movie (confirmed)
Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro has confirmed that he previously worked on a standalone Jabba the Hutt film at Lucasfilm and Disney.
Star Wars features a wide variety of colorful aliens. From Geonosians to Gungans to Lasatians, alien races in a galaxy far, far away come in all shapes and sizes.
But one of the more unique offerings in this series is the hat. This Hutt is known to fans by its most famous member, the Tatooine crime lord Jabba, who resolutely oversaw his Espa and surrounding areas.
Jabba: A Star Wars Story?
talk to colliderGuillermo del Toro has said that the Star Wars movie that was once in development was going to be centered around none other than Jabba the Hutt.
Well, the first news of a Jabba movie broke in 2017 (via Variety), arriving at a time when Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm was still relatively recent. At that point, the studio was more or less in “throw things at the wall and see what sticks” mode.
When del Toro was asked how close he was to actually directing a Jabba the Hutt movie, he joked:
“Well, I think the movie will come out when the Blu-ray comes out. That’s when I know it’s going to happen.”
The director expanded on these statements and emphasized that it was not his decision to let the film fall by the wayside. As del Toro said “It doesn’t belong to me.”
“Yes, things disappear at the last moment. I’ve had it happen again and again and again. I was very happy because it was the rise and fall of Jabba the Hutt. We were doing a lot of things. And it’s not my property, it’s not my money. This is one of the 30 scripts that will disappear. And I… , sometimes it’s bitter, sometimes it’s not. I always say to the team, “Good practice, guys.” Good practice. ‘”
He also took the opportunity to share a bit of his own personal philosophy, not only about filmmaking but about life. “Trust in the universe.”
“We designed a wonderful world and wonderful things. We learned. So we can never forget to be grateful for life. No matter what life throws at us, there is something to learn from it.” . So, I trust the universe. When something doesn’t happen, I think, “Why?” I try to talk to myself and ask myself, “Why did this happen?” And the more you swim upstream with the universe, the less you know where you’re going. ”
Guillermo del Toro’s Star Wars movie would have been different
It sure would have been pretty cool to see Guillermo del Toro leave his mark on the Star Wars universe. This director has previously made films such as: water shape and pan’s labyrinth He is well known for his unique visual sense.
I would venture to say that he probably would have found a way to inject some of that style into Star Wars while staying firmly within the confines of the established series.
Del Toro has certainly starred in big franchise films before. boy from hell duology and pacific rimSo he clearly knows the type of storytelling needed for a Star Wars movie.
Unfortunately, his Jabba the Hutt movies were disappointing. Fans will love the original trilogy, clone wars (More brief cameo appearances phantom menace) Seeing the rise and fall of the characters could have been pretty compelling.
