CHARLOTTE — Fall is the time to get outside and have fun. You don’t have to look far to find some cool things to do in Charlotte this weekend.

Watch performers from around the world under the big top of the Garden Brothers Circus. The show runs through Sunday at the Park Expo and Conference Center.

Step back in time at the Carolina Renaissance Festival, now in its 30th season. The festival, held every Saturday and Sunday through Nov. 19, features attractions such as an amphitheater, arts and crafts, and a jousting tournament. On Saturday, Channel 9’s Steve’s Coats for Kids will collect donations from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Get a free child’s ticket when you donate a new or gently used coat.

See the moves and hear the music that made Michael Jackson a global superstar in the Broadway musical “MJ,” playing at the Belk Theater through Sunday.

Soar on a Ferris wheel and eat funnel cake at the Cleveland County Fair, which runs through Sunday in Shelby.

Music fans can see Suki Waterhouse at Amp Ballantine’s on Friday, Luke Bryan at PNC Music Pavilion on Saturday, and Karin Leon at Spectrum Center on Sunday.

Rock Hill’s Old Town Crawl also features plenty of live music on Fridays. The event is part of the Blues & Jazz Festival and will feature eight bands performing at six different venues.

Enjoy entertainment, local craft beer and food, shopping, live music, and family activities at Mecklenburg Oktoberfest on Saturday at Tourist Field. Charlotte Knight’s pumpkin patch will also be ready for harvest.

The Spectrum Center will be buzzing on Saturday for Charlotte Hornets Purple and Teal Day. This free event will feature all members of the Hornets participating in interactive activities and giveaways, as well as appearances by Hugo, Honeybees, Del Curry and Hive His Hip Hop Crew.

Have fun at Rural Hill’s Amazing Maze Maze, which runs until October 28th. The night maze will be back from this weekend.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Ola Charlotte Festival on Tryon Street in Uptown on Saturday.

Bell Tower Brewfest takes place Saturday at Bell Tower Green Park in Salisbury.

Dress up in your spookiest outfit and watch the Charlotte Roller Derby Painsaw Massacre on Saturday at the Grady Cole Center. The final home game of the year will feature contests, games, face painting and more for children.

Have fun for a great cause at the Ballantine Brunch Festival on Saturday at Amp Ballantine. Proceeds from this event benefit the Isabella Santos Foundation’s mission to increase funding for rare childhood cancer research.

If you’re considering adding a furry four-legged friend to your family, Piedmont Animal Rescue is hosting Food Brew and Rescue at the Idel County Fairgrounds on Saturday.

A Play Dead benefit concert will also be held Saturday at Green Life Family Farm in Concord, featuring live music, food trucks, vendors, adoptable dogs and more. Proceeds will be donated to K9s For Warriors.

Check out the cool wheels and rides at the Congregation Vintage Bike and Car Show on Saturday at Camp North End.

Open Streets 704 will unveil the new Corridors Connect on Sunday. During the event, designated roads will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic, providing opportunities for walking, cycling, dancing, playing, and interacting with neighbors.
