Day 2 of Venice Film Festival features Beetlejuice star Jenni Ortega
Beetle juice
The opening day of the Venice Film Festival was dominated by Tim Burton’s film Beetlejuice BeetlejuiceLots of red carpet glamour with a host of movie stars from Monica Bellucci to Catherine O’Hara. Michael Keaton enjoyed the day pointing his iPhone at fans and taking pictures. Beetlejuice– Costume-themed revellers were scattered around the red carpet area and even into the press room. Winona Ryder wore a dress that matched the movie. But the very small crowd went crazy with Jenna Ortega, aka Wednesday Addams, who arrived in a stunning red gown. Lido madness had arrived.
angry journalists
The lack of tours has angered the press in Venice, who complain about the lack of interviews allowed, or the lack of them at all. Mariam Shaghaji, a journalist for the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, asked Alberto Barbera directly about this during the press conference. Barbera said he was unaware of the situation, explaining that decisions about talent availability depended on distributors, who preferred to focus media coverage on the release of films later in the year.

Preview Room for Alfonso Cuarón’s Apple+ Movie Disclaimer The series, starring Cate Blanchett, Kevin Kline and Sacha Baron Quinn (unrecognizable and stunning in a very serious role), ends after the second of three episodes. Three episodes in a row, for 180 continuous minutes, seems like more than audiences can handle. Or maybe they just don’t like it?
Flip flops on the red carpet
We conclude our tour of wonders with a pair of white plastic flip-flops worn by Jim Simpson, husband of Sigourney Weaver, who received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement. If we are used to wearing sneakers with suits until now, wearing sandals with socks on the red carpet was something completely new. Did the director and actor forget his shoes? Were his feet hurting? Or was he trying to start a new trend? The mystery remains unsolved.
