Veda box office collection day 4: John Abraham’s film sees huge drop, grosses just Rs 2.7 crore
Vedaa box office collection, which also stars Sharvari Wagh, opened with Rs 6.3 crore on its first day and saw a steady rise, earning Rs 2.7 crore on Sunday, just Rs 2.5 crore more than its Saturday collection. The film recorded a 25.33% occupancy on Sunday, with the majority of viewers opting for evening screenings. In NCR, the film had 481 screenings, accoun ting for 24.25% of the total, followed by 423 screenings in Mumbai (26.75%), 306 in Ahmedabad, and 126 in Surat.
This Independence Day saw a three-way box office battle between Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s Stree 2, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, and John Abraham’s Vedaa. While Stree 2 took a commanding lead, Vedaa and Khel Khel Mein have been neck-and-neck in their fight for survival at the box office. Initially, Vedaa was leading, but by Saturday, it had grossed Rs 132.5 crore, falling short by Rs 70 crore compared to Khel Khel Mein’s opening weekend collection, as per industry tracker Sakhnirk.
Directed by Nikkhil Advani, Vedaa marks another collaboration with John Abraham after their 2019 hit Batla House, which also released on Independence Day. Batla House grossed Rs 155 crore and earned Rs 55 crore on its opening Monday, proving to be both a critical and commercial success. In contrast, Vedaa has received mixed reviews. While John and Sharvari’s performances were praised, the screenplay drew criticism for its predictability.
In her review for Indian Express, Shubhra Gupta noted, “Despite its attempts to stay relevant, the film falls back on conventional Bollywood formulas. The fate of the characters is evident from the moment they are introduced, and the plot twists are predictable.”
Meanwhile, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein, which initially lagged behind, managed to surpass Vedaa’s opening weekend collection by a small margin. The film, which opened with Rs 5.05 crore, earned Rs 3.75 crore on Sunday, bringing its total to Rs 13.95 crore.
Stree 2, however, emerged as the clear winner, crossing the Rs 190 crore mark in its opening weekend. The film is a sequel to the 2018 hit Stree, director Dinesh Vijan’s first horror-comedy.
