On why the film received such a certificate, he revealed, “They (CBFC) said they wouldn’t give it A certificate if we deleted this one line. That line had the word ‘aurat’ in it. That was the censor’s stand.”
The CBFC said if the dialogue was removed, it would not even need to get a ‘UA’ certificate. “They said if we removed it, we would give it a ‘U’ certificate directly. But Mahesh Bhatt said he would not remove it. So we were forced to accept an ‘A’ certificate. Despite that, it did well (at the box office),” he added.
However, to air the film on television, it had to receive a U certificate. “It airs well on television. But it released in theatres with an A certificate,” Kamal Kumar Barjatya added.
