Director Subrajit Mitra, whose Abhijatrik won the Best Bengali Feature Film award at the 68th National Film Awards, may be directing a Hindi feature film. Recent reports suggest that if all goes well, he will be the latest Bengali director to work in a domestic film. If reports are to be believed, the period drama will delve into historical events.
Reports said that the production house behind Subrajit’s invitation has worked with big name actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. In response to a question, the Bengali director said it was too early to comment on the matter. “Everything is in the early stages and there are no guarantees. Such things take time,” he added.
Meanwhile, there are speculations that a script delving into historical events has been submitted to the production house. Such events include the Battle of Plassey, the Mauryan Empire, etc. Subrajit said he was also offered a national project while working on “Avidyatrik”, a film he produced with Madhur Bhandarkar. In such cases, the script is selected first and then the cast and crew are finalised, he said.
Subrajit is currently busy in the post-production of Devi Choudurani, which also stars Srabanti Chatterjee and Prosenjit Chatterjee. The director said he is fully committed to the project as it is a big-scale film and refuses to rush it. Based on Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novel, the ambitious project sees Srabanti playing the role of Bengali bandit queen Devi Choudurani. Prosenjit will be playing the role of Bhavani Pathak.
