Film Producer Accuses Sunny Deol of Cheating, Forgery and Fraud: ‘He’s a Known Troublemaker for Years’ | Hindi Film News
Producer Sourav Gupta of Sandoon Entertainment recently accused Sunny Deol of fraud, extortion and forgery. Gupta, a former real estate developer turned producer, claims that Deol had repeatedly promised to take an advance for the film in 2016 and begin production, and continued to accept the funds. However, Deol allegedly retracted his promise after the success of his recent film Gadar 2.
Gupta told HT City that he signed a deal with Deol in 2016 to star in his film for Rs 4 crore. Despite receiving an advance of Rs 1 crore, Deol instead focused on shooting Poster Boys (2017) instead of taking up Gupta’s project. Gupta alleged that Deol continually demanded additional funds and a total of Rs 2.55 crore was transferred to Deol’s account. Moreover, Deol allegedly forced Gupta to fund another director, book Filmistan studios and hire an executive producer for a film that never materialised.
The producer also alleged that Deol had made changes to his company’s contract for 2023. He said that when he checked the contract, he found that Deol had made changes in the middle pages. The changes included increasing his fee from Rs 4 crore to Rs 8 crore and reducing his profit share to Rs 2 crore.
Sunil Darshan, a film director known for films such as Janwar (1999) and Andaz (2003), also voiced his support for Gupta at the same press conference. He claimed that he faced a similar situation to that of Sunny Deol. According to Darshan, Deol had acquired the international distribution rights for his film Ajay (1996) but defaulted on full payment, leaving the balance outstanding. Darshan added that Deol then approached him to collaborate on a project, promising him to “trust me and help me”, before demanding further payment.
An industry source, speaking anonymously, revealed that Sunny Deol has a long-standing reputation of not keeping his promises despite signing deals with several producers. Sources said that Deol had given the bound script of a film called Ram Janmbhumi to the producers, who then built a massive set in Mumbai. Initially, Deol agreed to the project for Rs 5 crore, but later, after Gadar 2 was a success in 2023, he demanded Rs 5 crore and refused to show up on the sets.
Gupta said he had filed a police complaint against Deol. Gupta said police filed a complaint against Deol on April 30, but Deol’s office responded with a letter stating that Deol was out of town on the day he was scheduled to appear in court. Attempts to reach Sunny Deol for comment went unanswered.
