After a long time, Bollywood star hero Akshay Kumar has come up with a much-talked-about movie called ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’. The film also stars Tiger Shroff and is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. The film department has marketed this movie pretty well, so let’s see how it goes.
Story:
Kabir (Prithviraj Sukumaran) steals cargo from the Indian army and kills several soldiers. The package contains sensitive information, putting the country’s security at risk. Misha (Manushi Chhillar) tries to fight Kabir’s group but fails. Court-martialed police officers Firoz alias Freddy (Akshay Kumar) and Rakesh alias Rocky (Tiger Shroff) are deputed to track down and stop Kabir. Misha and Pam (Alaya F) assist Firoz and Rakesh in their mission. Who is this Kabir? What made him at odds with the Indian Army? What’s inside that package? Did Firoz and Rakesh stop Kabir? This is what this movie is about.
Plus points:
The makers have promised that Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan will have some of the best action sequences and that’s exactly what the film delivers in that regard. The action set pieces are brilliantly designed by Craig Macrae and look great on screen. His one block of action before the interval is a visual treat and sets the momentum for the second half.
Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff play their roles very well. The action blocks are also well thought out and clearly visible on the screen. Their chemistry and fun banter saves the movie to some extent. There are some fun moments in the first half, and you might enjoy it even if nothing plot-wise happens. Sonakshi Sinha does a decent extended cameo.
Minus points:
It is a shame to see such a mediocre work from a director like Ali Abbas Zafar who has given us some great films in the commercial field. Prithviraj Sukumaran is a great actor but lacks impact. That’s because of the bland script. Producers tried to tweak the mundane story by adding technology-related elements, but little changed.
While the action sequences and scale are definitely huge, the plot needs to be strong for a movie to click, and that didn’t happen here. As long as the movie is interesting, a tried-and-true template can work. However, the second half of ‘Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan’ is completely lacking in entertainment elements. There are many movies like Pathaan and War that follow the same format, so Bade Miayn Chote Miyan becomes dull and dull once the backstory is revealed.
Filmmakers have to try something new in this genre to keep the audience interested. Manushi Chhillar and Alaya F are often forgotten due to their bad writing. The background score is poor and repetitive. Even the well-constructed action scenes lack impact because the score doesn’t really take it to the next level. To make matters worse, the film lacks logic.
Technical aspects:
Poor CGI and substandard cinematography further affect the viewing experience. This is a big budget movie and the makers should have paid more attention to the technical aspects. Neither the song nor the backscore is good. Vishal Mishra’s acting was not good, but with some hits, this movie could have been a little better.
Coach Ali Abbas Zafar’s direction is substandard. Those who have seen his past work would not expect such substandard work from him. This movie isn’t all that interesting, and there’s nothing new in terms of story or script. The script is lazy and the movie gives a sense of déjà vu in multiple scenes.
verdict:
Overall, “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” is a mediocre film with good action but a lackluster story. Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff play their roles well and their chemistry makes the first half somewhat watchable. However, once the antagonist’s backstory is revealed, the movie becomes boring and predictable. The second half is completely lacking in entertainment. “Prithviraj Sukumaran” does not shine due to poor writing. While Bollywood produces a plethora of such patriotic films, it has to come up with fresh ideas to keep the genre alive. At the box office, the film may initially benefit from the Eid season, but it will be difficult to maintain once the holiday season ends.
