Ranjith says there’s a lot of vulgarity in films and web series today: ‘Shame on me’ | Bollywood
Veteran Bollywood actor Ranjith has expressed concern over the growing trend of “vulgarity and inappropriate” content in films and web series on OTT platforms. In a recent interview with ANI, Ranjith revealed that despite being in the entertainment industry, he only watches a few web series during the COVID-19 pandemic. “And during COVID, would you believe me if I say that I have watched only two or three web series? Two were English historical and one was Indian. I haven’t watched any other projects,” he noted.
The Laawaris actor criticized the widespread use of explicit language and scenes in the films, saying it often made family members and staff feel uncomfortable. “Today, vulgarity and inappropriate language are used in films, which makes you uncomfortable in front of your colleagues and family members,” he expressed.
He also expressed concern over the proliferation of indecent scenes and item numbers placed between frames in modern films. “What’s going on in this country in commercials, gambling in commercials, I’m ashamed,” he said.
The 82-year-old veteran star contrasted it with numbers from the bygone era, especially the 80s, where veteran actresses like Waheeda Rehman, Helen and Bindu performed beautifully and artistically.
Earlier in the 80s, there were item numbers in which Waheeda Rehman ji, Helen ji and Bindu ji performed and they had grace in what they did. They all practiced what they did and it was art. The dresses were also not revealing,” he recalls nostalgically.
Recently, Ranjith played supporting roles in Housefull 4 (2019) and Welcome Back (2015).
