Social media is abuzz with reports that actress Alia Bhatt will be playing the lead role in Disney’s Indian Princess Musical. However, filmmaker Gurinder Chadha denied the rumors.

Grinder told X: “This is not true. I don’t know where it all started. The script is still in production. Alia and I are in talks about another project and I recently attended her charity gala. (as per the original text).”

Grinder recently met Alia in London, where she hosted her first charity gala. The two hit it off on the red carpet.

Grinder is best known for his directorial work including “Bend It Like Beckham” and “Bride and Prejudice.” Bend It Like Beckham was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Picture (Musical or Comedy), the BAFTA Award for Best British Film, the European Film Academy Award for Best Picture, and the Writers Guild of America Award. It was nominated for Best Original Screenplay.

In 2022, Disney commissioned Gurinder Chadha and Paul Maeda Burgess to create an original musical inspired by the dynamic princesses of Indian history.

Both have written the screenplay, with Chadha also directing and producing. The plot remains a secret, Deadline reported.
