Heist comedy-drama ‘Crew’ starring Kareena Kapoor, Tabu and Kriti Sanon in lead roles is currently playing in theaters. Let’s see how the movie goes.

Story:

Jasmin Kohli (Kareena Kapoor), Geeta Sethi (Tabu) and Divya Rana (Kriti Sanon) are air hostesses working for Kohinoor Airlines, headed by Vijay Walia (Saswata Chatterjee). Kohinoor Airlines employees have not been paid salaries for several months. The HR manager (Rajesh Sharma) makes the employees believe that everything is going well in the company and that their salaries will be paid soon. Jasmin, Geeta and Divya soon learn that Kohinoor Airlines is in trouble. In dire need of money, the three of them chose illegal methods to solve their problems. what is that? Have they been caught? What happened to Kohinoor Airlines? This is the crux of the story.

Plus points:

You probably already know that this movie is based on Vijay Mallya and his Kingfisher Airlines. Movies like Jawan have created a buzz about this problem of bad loans, but Crew takes a different and interesting approach. What happens when someone working in a company robs an employer who has caused them extreme suffering without paying them, and then flees to another country? The very idea of Crew is appealing.

This movie has plenty of comedic elements and its tongue-in-cheek humor will make you laugh. The humorous scenes worked mainly because of the comedic timing of Kareena Kapoor, Tabu and Kriti Sanon. The trio has been a huge success with their stunning performances and fans are sure to have a gala time watching their combo scenes.

The three did a pretty good job, but Kareena and Tabu take the cake with their mesmerizing on-screen presence and conviction. The creators tried to balance the emotions as well as the humor. There were some emotional scenes, but they were handled well without going overboard.

The story is kept light for the most part, and the screenplay choices worked well in the first hour. The script is excellent as far as the main character development is concerned. Diljit Dosanjh, Rajesh Sharma and Kapil Sharma are decent in supporting roles.

Minus points:

This movie defies logic and the way it handles some scenes seems downright ridiculous. The heist episode that comes at the end could have been written in a better way. Some may wonder how the three female protagonists managed to pull it off so easily and without so much effort. Simply put, the robbery episode is jokey and funny, but at the same time the convenient writing and lack of logic derail the overall impact.

It’s understandable that the filmmakers wanted to keep the movie crisp (the runtime is 2 hours and 3 minutes), but doing so makes some sequences feel rushed and the movie ends abruptly. Due to the nature of the film, it appeals to urban audiences rather than the masses.

Technical aspects:

The songs fit well into the story depending on the situation. Background scores are influential. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography is neat and the directorial value is decent. Editing could have been better.

Rajesh Krishnan’s direction is superb. Clue is a bit similar to Rajesh’s previous directorial effort, Lootcase, and both films mainly rely on fun moments. The second half could have been handled better.

verdict:

Overall, the crew are entertainers who mostly rely on fun moments to pass the time. The film is inspired by real-life events, and the way the main character is portrayed is relatable and likable. Kareena Kapoor, Tabu and Kriti Sanon are great in their roles and their on-screen chemistry is what makes this film so great. A heist episode that defies logic and a rushed sequence in the second half prevent the film from reaching its full potential. The Crew isn’t exactly a memorable movie, but the fun factor makes it a decent movie.
