Turkish ambassador says he has watched Aamir Khan’s ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ four times: ‘It’s more successful than…’
Firat Sner, Turkey’s ambassador to India, is an avid fan of Bollywood movies, with Aamir Khan’s “Lal Singh Chaddha” being his favorite, having watched it more than four times. Sanel said the film, an authorized rendition of the Hollywood hit “Forrest Gump,” is expected to outperform the original 1994 version starring Tom Hanks in terms of success.
Despite receiving mixed to negative reviews and facing a boycott campaign across social media platforms that likely affected box office performance, Sunel remains adamant continues to be a person. In an interview with PTI, he expressed his admiration for Bollywood and Aamir Khan and said that ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ resonated deeper with him than the American version.
He said, “I am a fan of Bollywood movies and my favorite actor is Aamir Khan. Lal Singh Chaddha, I have seen this movie at least four times. It is an adaptation of Forrest Gump. But for me this… The movie is more successful than the original.”
Snell appreciates Bollywood’s ability to showcase the Indian way of life and its cultural background, deepen viewers’ understanding of India and its people, and contribute to its growing global success. “When you watch Bollywood movies, you also get a glimpse of the Indian lifestyle and background.” “Bollywood is becoming more and more successful because you can learn so much about India and Indians,” he added.
Additionally, parts of Lal Singh Chaddha were shot in Turkiye, which Snell says highlighted the cultural similarities between India and Turkiye. He illustrated his point with a scene early in the film in which Aamir Khan’s character shares a golgappa with a nearby passenger on a train before eating it himself. He said, “This (scene) is normal for you and me because it’s a tradition.” In Turkiye, you may also offer food to people nearby before you eat. But even if Americans watch this movie, they probably won’t understand it. You would think, “He’s not a smart kid, so he offered food to other people.” Perhaps you are so interested in the movies here because you feel that our societies have many similarities. ”
Laal Singh Chaddha was released in 2022. This was the official Hindi remake of his 1994 film Forrest Gump starring Tom Hanks. Forrest Gump is a classic movie, but Lal Singh Chaddha’s performance was not very good. The film was directed by Advait Chandan and starred Kareena Kapoor Khan as the female lead. Mona Singh also played an important role in this film.
Meanwhile, Aamir Khan is busy preparing for ‘Sitare Zameen Par’ and ‘Lahore 1947’. She will be produced by Aamir Khan, who will star opposite Genelia D’Souza in the former, while Sunny Deol will star in the latter, her first co-star.
