Emily Blunt says Greta Gerwig helped inspire her ‘Fall Guy’ character

Emily Blunt revealed that she took some inspiration from breaking records Barbie Director Greta Gerwig for her role in the film Scapegoat.

In the upcoming action comedy, Blunt plays film director Jody Moreno, whose leading man ends up missing. That’s when Ryan Gosling’s actor Colt Sievers, who is also Jodie’s ex-boyfriend, came into the picture to help find the actor.

In a recent interview with Comprehensive moviethe Oppenheimer The actress shared that her character is loosely inspired by Gerwig. “With the warmth and charm, I think there’s a little bit of Greta in there,” Blunt said. “It was a combination of a few other people I met and dropped out of.”

Gerwig became the highest-grossing director of all time last year, thanks to her blockbuster film BarbieStarring Margot Robbie and Gosling. The film grossed over $1.4 billion at the box office and also made history as the first live-action film directed by a solo woman to join the global billion-dollar club.

Scapegoat Director David Leitch’s partner and wife Kelly McCormick also explained how Judy’s character was changed from make-up artist to director to add weight to the film.

“Emily’s role was a makeup artist when we sold it, and we turned it into a directorial debut before giving her a very rough draft,” she told the outlet. “It made it seem like (the character) was putting more pressure on her.”

Blunt added that they worked as a team to finalize her character. “We built it all together, because I think, maybe in the original script, she was very strict, that kind of strict director,” the Oscar-nominated actress said. “But I think it’s always interesting to play someone who’s in a situation where they’re very volatile.”
