Bollywood movie Coolie no 1 is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language comedy film directed by David Dhawan and produced by Vashu Bhagnani. A remake of the 1995 film of the same name, the film stars Varun Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, with Paresh Rawal in a supporting role. Principal photography began on 8 August 2019 in Bangkok. The film was set to be theatrically released in India on 1 May 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was later re-scheduled to release during Christmas on Amazon Prime Video.

Shooting of the movie kick-started in Bangkok in the month of August 2019.In India part of the movie was shot in Goa. The film shooting was wrapped up in the month of February 2020 and was slated to hit screens on May 1, 2020.  However, due to COVID-19 pandemic the film will be skip theatrical release and will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video on Christmas this year.

The others film, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video, include Rajkummar Rao’s Chhlaang, Bhumi Pednekar’s Durgavati, Kannada film Bheema Sena Nala Maharaja, Middle Class Melodies (Telugu) starring Anand Devarakonda, Maara (Tamil) starring R Madhavan, Manne number 13 (Kannada) starring, Chetan Gandharva, Halal Love Story (Malayalam) and Suriya starrer Soorarai Pottru (Tamil).

As theatres were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, many filmmakers opted to release their films on streaming platforms. The trend was started by Shoojit Sircar’s Gulabo Sitabo, which stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana. The film released on Amazon Prime Video on June 12. The trend was followed by films like Dil Bechara, Sadak 2 and Lootcase, among others, that released on Disney+Hotstar. Akshay Kumar’s Laxmmi Bomb, Ajay Devgn’s Bhuj: The Pride of India and Abhishek Bachchan’s The Big Bull are awaiting their release on Disney+Hotstar in the coming days.
