We have magical memories of laughing and crying while writing the film.Rajkumar Hirani and Abhijat Joshi | Hindi Movie News
Rajkumar Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi first teamed up when they made Rage Raho Munnabhai (2006). From ‘PK’, ‘3 Idiots’, ‘Sanju’ to ‘Dunki’, they have worked together for over 18 years of his life. During a recent discussion held in the city, filmmakers and screenwriters gave audiences a glimpse into their creative worlds.
Raju Hirani said that Abhijat lived in the US and when he went there to write the script, they would talk for hours and anything that came to mind would be put in a thought folder.
he said: “We’d be talking together for months, and something interesting would come out of that conversation. Then we’d go back and put it in a thought folder. Over a period of time, something interesting would come out of that conversation. That thought folder was overflowing with about 200” -300 ideas, but the day comes when you finally realize that the universe is giving you everything. You walk by the store and say this is part of the movie. There’s no magic there. It’s just you doing it. When you get too deep into the world around you, you begin to see things that weren’t there. ”
Abhijat added, “I think Charlie Chaplin answered that question: Where do you get ideas? From a crazy desire for them.”
Reminiscing a scene from The Three Idiots, Abhijat said, “I have magical memories of laughing and crying while writing the film. Raju and I take very long walks while writing the film. It even happened that he told jokes.” In the episode I remember, there is a scene in “The Three Idiots” where during a walk, Rancho goes to his girlfriend’s (Kareena Kapoor’s character) house and instead of talking to her lover, he talks to her. Raju said, “What is your friend doing then?” We were in America and we had just crossed the mailbox, so when I mentioned that they were going to pee in the mailbox, Raju actually stopped and burst out laughing. After that, I received an email from him called P-mail. ”
