on Sakal Ban
Sung beautifully by Raja Hassan with lyrics by Amir Khusro, Sakal Ban has backing vocals from Umesh Joshi, Vijay Duri, Shripad Lele, Amit Paddy and Shahzad Ali. The song presents everything that the audience has come to expect from a Sanjay Leela Bhansali creation: from beautiful period costumes, grand sets and multiple background dancers, all in symmetrical harmony by Kruti Mahesh and Vijayshree Chaudhary.
The nearly three-minute long video shows Manisha Koirala’s character taking Sharmeen to a courtyard where all the other women are present. Richa Chadha’s character then starts dancing gracefully, paving the way for Manisha to step in moments later. Aditi Rao Hydari also joins. It all leads to an evening of dancing and general happiness. Bhansali Productions also shared the video on their Instagram and added the caption, “Step into spring to celebrate the season of flowers, blooming with beauty, power and grace!”
Fan reactions
Reacting to the video, a fan commented, “Manisha Koirala dances so gracefully. She’s a joy to watch, she slays.” Another fan said: “This kind of music is barely made in 2024, I love you SLB, you’re the best.” The comment also said: “The music, the sets, the cinematography, the costumes… just wow. I just love Manisha Koirala very much. To finally see him in a big project like he was in his prime makes me very happy.
The series, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha, explores the cultural reality of Heramand, a glitzy neighborhood, through the stories of courtesans and their patrons, set against the tumultuous backdrop of India’s freedom struggle of the 1940s. The official streaming date of the show is still awaited. The first suite of the series was released last month.
