The ‘Drishyam’ series is gearing up for a Hollywood remake and is likely to become a hot topic once again. While there are expectations for the next branch, fans have been debating for some time whether Drishyam belongs to Malayalam or Hindi cinema. Now, the director of the original film, Jeethu Joseph, has addressed this whole controversy.
The original Malayalam masterpiece starring the legendary Mohanlal was a huge hit. However, since the Hindi version was released in 2015, Drishyam has become known as the film of Bollywood star Ajay Devgn.
Commenting on the ongoing debate, Jeethu Joseph expressed elation at the rare honor of having his work remade in Hollywood. He said, “As a filmmaker, I’m very excited and happy that the movie I made will be remade in Hollywood. This movie deals with universal themes. This is not just a crime thriller, it’s a family movie.” It’s a story of love and security, and that’s why it’s so appealing among people of different languages.”
“Some Hindi films were remade in Malayalam and other languages and were more popular than the originals. Having said that, those who watched this film and liked it, the Mohanlal-starrer I know that the original film was directed by me,” the director added.
The Hindi remake, helmed by late director Nishikant Kamat, stars Ajay Devgn and Tabu, who imitates the character played by Asha Sharath in the original.
Drishyam is the story of a family man who does everything to save his family from accusations of murder. Despite his guilt, the protagonist protects his family in this fascinating story. This story has some surprising twists. ‘Drishyam’ has two parts of him in both Hindi and Malayalam versions.
