It is said in Sri Padmapurana that Mahizmati’s King Mahjit was peace loving and devout in Dwapara Yuga. But he was childless. The king told Mahamuni Lomesh that this was happening due to the deeds of his previous birth. Lomesh said that the king was a tyrant and moneyless Vaishya in his previous life. In the afternoon on Putrada Ekadashi, he was disturbed by thirst and went to a reservoir where he saw a thirsty cow suffering from heat drinking water and he stopped drinking himself. This act of the king is religiously unfair. By virtue of his former birth he may become king in this birth, but due to sin, children are devoid of children. Mahamuni said that if all the well-wishers of the king should observe the fast on the Ekadashi date of Shravan Shukla Paksha and give his virtue to the king, They will definitely get the child jewel. Thus, along with the subjects, when the king also observed this fast, after that the queen gave birth to a bright child. After that this Ekadashi is called Shravan Putrada Ekadashi.
