IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma’s life was the inspiration for an acclaimed film 12th failure, recently shared his thoughts on the film’s influence and his lessons. Although the film, starring Vikrant Massey and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, was a success, Sharma revealed that he received no financial compensation for the story or the book that inspired it.
“Personally, I didn’t get anything out of it by asking,” Sharma said at the ABP India Ideas Summit. “I am a visapt imamandar (totally honest) person, and so is my wife.” Told.
Sharma said the film’s real value lies in its inspirational impact on young audiences. “Students at my school are sending me letters saying they want to be like me,” he said, emphasizing the film’s powerful message of perseverance and honesty.
While Mr. Sharma acknowledged the role of filmmaker Chopra in bringing his story to life, he emphasized the importance of such stories. “There’s a lot of talk, but no one cares,” he said. “This story isn’t unique. It’s a story about kids everywhere in this country.”
Mr. Sharma concluded by reiterating his mantra of hard work, integrity and refusing to take shortcuts. “If even just a few people feel like they should work hard and honestly, I don’t think there’s a greater reward than that,” he said.
Coming back to the movie, it was released in October 2023. It then debuted on Disney+ Hotstar. Despite being an OTT release, the film managed to collect box office collections.
