Prankster removed from BAFTA by security after Oppenheimer win crashes – The Hollywood Reporter
BAFTA has responded to reports that a social media prankster has joined forces with Oppenheimer The team on stage as they accept the award for Best Picture at the awards ceremony on Sunday.
The man, who was not named by the British Academy, was “removed by security” after taking the stage with him Oppenheimer Writer, director and producer Christopher Nolan, producers Emma Thomas and Charles Roven, and actor Cillian Murphy.
A BAFTA spokesperson added in a statement: “We take this very seriously and do not wish to give him any publicity by commenting further.”
The man, wearing a dark suit and black hat, can be seen standing behind Thomas as she gives her acceptance speech alongside Nolan and Murphy.
Viewers may have thought he was connected to the movie when he appeared on stage while Thomas was urging more from the movie Oppenheimer team to join her on stage.
“Where are you? Come on everyone!”, Thomas said in part as the man could be seen walking up the stairs to the stage.
After her speech, the man appeared to put something under his arm and applaud before exiting the theater with the filmmakers.
Presenter Michael J. Fox and host David Tennant were also on stage when the incident occurred, but no one appeared to react to the incident.
The prankster is said to be a YouTuber who also crashed the Brit Awards and the FIFA Ballon d’Or awards in France.
Oppenheimer It was the biggest winner at the BAFTA Awards, taking home seven awards including Best Film, Best Director for Nolan and Best Actor for Murphy.
