Director Naseeruddin Shah slams Hindi films, urges producers to prioritize art over money: ‘I don’t like…’
Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah recently attended an event and spoke about his disappointment with Hindi films. He believes that Hindi films can only improve if filmmakers focus on creativity instead of just making money. Shah also criticized the repetitive nature of films made over the past century. He stated that he has stopped watching movies because he does not like the current trends and is disappointed by the lack of substance. Shah asked why people praise the long history of Hindi cinema when there is no innovation, and expressed concern that audiences would quickly lose interest in the same old stories.
“I’m really disappointed that they keep making the same films when they proudly say that Hindi films are 100 years old. I stopped watching Hindi films, I don’t like them at all. Not,” he said.
The veteran actor also shared his advice for filmmakers. He said Hindi cinema can regain its former glory only if filmmakers stop focusing only on making money. He suggested that serious filmmakers should portray today’s reality responsibly to avoid legal troubles and controversy. “There is only hope for Hindi films if we stop looking at them as a means of making money. But I feel it is already too late. The films that thousands of people are watching will continue to be made and People will continue to watch it, but for God knows how long, so there’s no solution anymore. So anyone who wants to make a serious movie should make sure they don’t get a fatwa or that ED is on the door. It is their responsibility to show the reality of today in a way that does not knock the issue,” Shah added.
On the work front, Naseeruddin Shah will be seen in the ‘Showtime’ series alongside Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana, Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Vijay Raaz and Shriya Saran. The show, which airs on Disney+ Hotstar, is directed by Mihir Desai and Archit Kumar. Showtime delves into the invisible world behind the camera.
