Aarya 3 Review: Sushmita Sen is flawless in the latest season of Ram Madhvan’s web series
Almost four years later, everything is over – the love, the vulnerability, the suffering, the pain, the bloodshed, and above all, Aarya herself. When it was revealed in the trailer that Aarya was shot in the last and final season of Ram Madhvani’s show, like everyone else, I was wondering why he was giving such a major spoiler in the trailer itself. But now that I have watched ‘Aarya – Antim Vaar’, I know why he did it and it only speaks to the brilliant story writing and direction of the show.
Starring Sushmita Sen, Aarya is a crime drama and revolves around a woman of the same name who decides to protect her family from mafia gangs after her husband’s death. While the first two seasons revolved around Aarya’s efforts to find her husband’s killer and protect her children, the first part of the final season explores her life as she becomes a don herself. However, in the final episodes, he decides to quit his illegal business and join forces with his nemesis, the policeman, Khan.
What works wonders for Arya: Antim Vaar is her story. It sets up the narrative right from the start that things will not go in Aarya’s favour. He discovers a traitor in his team, learns his daughter’s love, fears losing his children and becomes vulnerable in his relationship with Nalini Sahiba. This suggests that whatever Aarya’s motive may be, she has also been involved in many murders and illegal businesses, and therefore should be punished as well.
The second season of Aarya third installment is also charming, intriguing and keeps you on the edge of your seat. Since you know that Aarya has been shot, it makes you think a lot about how and when she will face the consequences of her misdeeds. Madhvani very cleverly did not reveal the same till the last minute of the show. Just when you think the show is finally over, it comes back with a bang and surprises everyone. It is with this technique that creators retain their audience.
It is appreciated how Ram Madhvani has connected the last episodes of his show with its first season. Aarya’s husband, Tej, is mentioned several times. She fulfills her late husband’s wish by ending the illegal trade. There are flashback scenes showing Tej’s last moments with Aarya. All these collectively add to the cinematic beauty of the show.
Sushmita Sen is brilliant as always as she returns as Aarya. He plays his role flawlessly and proves that no one can do it better than him. The portrayal of his vulnerability in his relationship with Nalini Sahiba is very well defined. Not to forget, like the previous seasons, Sushmita’s elegance and dialogue delivery also sets her apart and makes Aarya a show worth watching. His “lion” reappearance at the climax of the show is sure to remind you.
Joining Sushmita’s Aarya in the final season are mafia queens, Nalini Sahiba, Ila Arun. Although Ila Arun is good with her character, she doesn’t get a chance to show her potential in front of T. His screen time is very little which makes his character development impossible. But it should also be noted that this is not the fault of the actor, but of the creators.
What makes you even more disappointed are the emotional scenes of Vikas Kumar aka ACP Khan. The actor did not fit well in his emotional scenes and fails to impress. Kumar’s character, Khan, also gets very personal with Aarya, which can make you cringe and wonder just one thing – does he have some personal motive behind it?
