An all-female orchestra plays the film’s music

Mattel revealed today that the live concert experience for Barbie The Movie: In Concert will arrive at the Hollywood Bowl on Saturday, July 27 — one year after the pic’s release. The show will bring the biggest film of 2023 to life with live music from The Barbie Land Sinfonietta, a special presentation from executive producer and orchestrator Missy Schmidt’s all-female, majority-women of color orchestra.
Greta Gerwig’s Oscar-nominated Best Picture film starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling will be projected onto a giant LED screen while an orchestra performs along with the film’s Grammy-nominated score.

“There’s nothing quite like the energy of The Bowl, and bringing world-class female musicians from the Barbie Land Sinfonietta to such an iconic venue feels like a perfect match,” Schmidt said.
Walk-in tickets will go on sale May 7.
The Bowl continues the global takeover of the pink-dressed doll, whose film stormed theaters last summer and attacked all comers. Barbie It was the No. 1 film of 2023 domestically ($636.2 million) and worldwide ($1.44 billion) and is Warner Bros.’ highest-grossing film of all time. It has won numerous awards and accolades, including Song of the Year for “What Was I Made For?” For Billie Eilish. And two more Grammy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards and eight Academy Award nominations.

Regarding those Oscar nominations: Gerwig and Robbie were snubbed for Best Director and Actress, respectively, sparking backlash from the industry and fans.
