Web series based on famous Lakshmikanthan murder case coming soon? that we know

High-profile and infamous cases involving huge celebrities are the best source material for creating engaging web series or shows. A similar web series is reportedly in the works, based on the Lakshmikanthan murder case, an incident that shocked the entire Tamil Nadu in the 1940s.

If reports are to be believed, director AL Vijay is set to make a web series based on the high-profile murder case of film journalist CN Laksmikanth. According to reports, actors Nathy Natarajan and Nazriya have been roped in to play important roles in the serial. The OTT platform is expecting an official announcement about the series soon.

On November 8, 1944, Tamil film journalist CN Lakshmikanthan was attacked by a group of unknown assailants and one of them stabbed him in the abdomen. The incident reportedly took place in Veperi, Chennai (then Madras) when Lakshmikanthan was returning home after visiting a friend. He died of his injuries the next day at 4:15 am on November 9, 1944.

Then in the days following the murder, the police arrested about six suspects based on Lakshmikantan’s account of the incident. The arrests included actors MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar and NS Krishnan and director SM Sriramulu Naidu.

Thiagaraja Bhagavathar was at the peak of his career and at the time of his arrest, he was considered the greatest actor in the Tamil film industry. Naturally, this caused a scandal in the state of Tamil Nadu. Things got worse for him when he was found guilty of the crime along with NS Krishnan while Sriramulu Naidu was acquitted. They appealed to the Madras High Court but were turned down.

So the two actors had to stay in prison until 1947. Only after a successful appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council were the charges dropped after a retrial. After this incident, Bhagavathar never regained his stardom or money and died in 1959.
