Brad Pitt to star in Quentin Tarantino’s latest film: reports
Quentin Tarantino reunites with one of his former collaborators to direct his swan song.
Brad Pitt is in talks to star in Pulp Fiction’s upcoming film The Movie Critic, according to reports from Deadline and Variety.
USA TODAY has reached out to reps for Pitt and Tarantino.
This will be the third Tarantino-directed film in which Pitt stars, following 2009’s “Inglourious Basterds” and 2019’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.” Pitt also appeared in the 1993 film “True Romance,” which was written by Tarantino and directed by Tony Scott.
Pitt will be the first known cast member in Tarantino’s The Movie Critic, which is expected to be based on a real-life film critic whom the director admires. Tarantino told Deadline in 2023 that the film is set in California in 1977 and “is based on a guy who really lived, but wasn’t really famous, and was writing movie reviews for a porn rag.”
It was not immediately clear whether Pitt, 60, would play the film critic, although Tarantino previously told Deadline that the film’s star would be a “new leading man for me” and would be around 35 years old.

Pitt won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for Tarantino’s “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” in which he played stuntman Cliff Booth opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Hollywood in 1969. The film, which was nominated for ten Oscars including Best Picture, was a hit. , was a huge box office success, grossing nearly $400 million worldwide.
Tarantino (60 years old) has said for many years that he intends to retire from directing films after his tenth film in order to maintain a consistently high quality in his filmography. “I know the history of cinema, and from now on, directors don’t get better,” he said on “Real Time with Bill Maher” in 2021.
This would make “The Movie Critic” Tarantino’s final film, as the director considers the two-part “Kill Bill” saga to be one film. After his retirement, Tarantino said he could direct television and continue writing books, having dipped his toe into the latter arena. He published the novel “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” in 2021 and the book of film criticism “Cinema Speculation” in 2022.
“The Movie Critic” has no confirmed release date or distributor.
