Hyderabad:

Two people have been arrested for printing fake Indian currency notes and distributing them in Hyderabad. Fake currency worth over Rs 4 crore was recovered from the duo, police said on Sunday.

According to Police Inspector Anjaneyulu, the main accused, Vanam Laxminarayana, a computer expert, allegedly used a screen printer, green foil paper, JK Excel bond papers, cutter and laminating machine to investigate the crime. After being inspired by the web series ‘Farzi’, he decided to print fake notes and distribute them in the market.

His alleged accomplice, Erukala Pranai Kumar, was caught in a counterfeit money test at a fruit and vegetable market with fake currency worth Rs 20,000.

“We seized 810 fake currency notes in the denomination of 500 rubles, which were intended for distribution. Printers, scanners and other items were also seized,” the police said.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Laxminarayana, who was earlier involved in the mortgage loan scam, roped Kumar into the crime by promising a share of the profits.

Both the accused are now in Hyderabad police custody.
