Miss Perfect Review: Lavanya Tripathi’s Rom-Com series is a fun but clichéd watch
The Disney+ Hotstar romantic comedy series about mistaken identities puts its main characters in some crazy situations during lockdown. Read our review of the first three episodes of the Telugu show.
About his perfect
In Telugu serial its perfection, Lavanya Tripathi plays a woman with chastity and control issues. After relocating to Hyderabad ahead of the COVID-19 lockdown, he tells one white lie that spirals into another life in this rom-com show. The eight-episode series premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on February 2.
Miss Perfect: A Narrative
The first episode establishes Lavanya Rao as a woman whose life is in disarray after her ex-boyfriend announces her engagement to someone else. Lavanya supposedly has OCD and has control issues when it comes to cleaning, but everyone puts up with it because her stupid idea is to be perfect.
The Telugu serial takes a funny twist when she finds herself accidentally hired as a maid in her neighbor Rohit’s house. The events leading up to her assignment are fun because Lavanya can’t resist cleaning up anything or anyone that isn’t right. However, what she doesn’t expect is that Rohit will start falling for her in the process. Miss Perfect also added some meddling parents and an ambitious maid.
Miss Perfect: Writing and Directing
In the rom-com series, the misunderstandings grow with each episode, and not just for Lavanya’s character. Her maid Jyothi (Abhigniya Voothaluru), whose place she takes, and Rohit, all have preconceived notions about Lavanya and she does not correct them. This leads to the writers putting the characters in silly situations, which is enhanced as the story unfolds in the early days of the 2020 nationwide lockdown. It all gets a little farcical in the second episode, which dives into the interesting premise of the show. . Director Vishwak Khanderao keeps these out-of-control communication issues to standard and doesn’t really do much to flesh out the characters more.
Miss Perfect: Performances
Despite the craziness of the plot, Lavanya Tripathi adds some vulnerability to her character. It’s a little disturbing to see the other characters, especially her father Gokul (Harshavardhan) and best friend Indu, so dismissive of Lavanya’s quirks when it comes to cleanliness and her need to control her. The actor makes the series watchable. The rest of the cast fail to elevate the script beyond what they have been given.
Miss Perfect: Criticism
The romantic comedy, which packs all the episodes into less than 25 minutes, makes for an enjoyable watch. The show’s promise fades the more you immerse yourself in it, because the clichés and coincidences don’t make sense. The show would have been better off keeping the focus on its co-star Lavanya, but it gets sidetracked by the side plot of Jyothi and her singer’s desires. There is an interesting record of how welfare is treated in wealthy families, but it is not well developed. All eight episodes its perfection Now streaming in seven languages including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali and Marathi on Disney+ Hotstar.
