Ripley’s much awaited teaser trailer is here. On Monday, Netflix shared a stunning one-minute teaser for the limited series. Andrew Scott looks terrifying as the titular character in the Patricia Highsmith adaptation. The teaser gives viewers a glimpse into the world of Ripley, based on Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels. Andrew Scott, best known for his role as Hot Priest in Fleabag, stars as Griff, who lives in early 1960s New York City. The series follows her as she hires a rich man to travel to Italy to convince her stray son to return home.

The teaser shows Scotty Ripley avoiding normal contact and hiding all the time. Either he’s on the run or he’s on to something – with a fake identity that few notice. Andrew Scott charms in a refreshing avatar and utters only one word – ‘Ripley’ in the teaser.

Fan reactions

Reacting to the teaser, one fan wrote: “Would be amazing if this turns out to be more than just an adaptation of The Talented Mr. Ripley and follow up novels because the story is there.” Another fan said: “Steven Zailian wrote Schindler’s List, Mission: Impossible, Gangs of New York, Fullyball, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The Irishman. It can be crazy good.” The comment also read: “Can’t stop watching it over and over again!”

Ripley is written and directed by Steven Zailian. It also stars Johnny Flynn as Dickie Greenleaf, the prodigal son, and Dakota Fanning as Ripley’s girlfriend, who is suspicious of his actions.

The teaser also revealed Ripley’s premiere date, as all eight episodes of the series will begin airing on April 4.

Andrew Scott was last seen in Andrew Hay’s All The Strangers to critical acclaim. She recently earned a Golden Globe nomination for her performance in the film, which also stars Paul Mescall, Claire Foy and Jamie Bell.
