Sumeet Saigal’s amazing journey after quitting acting

Mumbai: In the unpredictable realm of Bollywood, a career can skyrocket or plummet with just one movie. Actor Sumeet Saigal, who first came to prominence in the late ’80s, went through the ups and downs of the industry before making his breakthrough career shift.

Sumeet made his Bollywood debut with the superhit multi-starrer film Insaniyat Ke Dushman (1987). Even though he shared the screen with stalwarts like Dharmendra and Shatrughan Sinha, Sumeet left a strong impression. However, his career trajectory took an unexpected turn when he started being compared to another emerging superstar of that era.

A year before Sumeet’s debut, Govinda had burst onto the Bollywood scene with ‘Ilzaam’ (1986) and was making waves in the industry. Comparisons between Sumeet and Govinda were inevitable and affected Sumeet’s prospects in the film industry. On the personal front, Sumeet’s life has undergone many changes. He was initially married to Saira Banu’s niece Shaheen Banu and they have a daughter, Sayyeshah, who made her Bollywood debut in ‘Shivaay’. After their divorce in 2003, Sumeet married Farah Naaz, Tabu’s sister.
