Rohit Shetty talks about why Bollywood doesn’t make many action films with female protagonists
Gone are the days when action-packed stunts in movies were dominated by male actors.
Over the years, actresses like Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Nayanthara, Kriti Sanon and Katrina Kaif have starred in action roles in films like Don, Paysan, Jawan, Ganapath and Tiger 3. has shown off his talent.
But we never paid attention to why the industry is having fewer action heroines and more action heroes.
In an interview with ANI, director Rohit, who introduced Shilpa Shetty as a woman cop in his OTT show Indian Police Force, talks about why Bollywood doesn’t make action films with female leads more often. Told. Notably, Rohit also introduces Deepika as a cop in ‘Singham Again’.
He said, “You know why Shilpa and Deepika are doing action in films now, because now they have that much budget and scale. I’m not saying there aren’t any, there are plenty of girls in this industry who can do the same sharp action as an action hero with training, but I feel like movies need to do that if you’re the male star. I’m talking about the scale of the movie we’re making together. If it’s a script for women, the budget shouldn’t be that big.
He went on to say, “If the films we’re talking about are seen overseas on that scale, it’s because of that market. Because there’s a budget for it and there’s an audience for it, there was an audience for it before, but now it’s scaled up. Even if it’s a heroine action movie, people are going to come see it. It was done right. I feel like that’s more important.”
Rohit Shetty also revealed the biggest struggle faced by filmmakers.
Recognizing the challenges faced by filmmakers, Rohit revealed that the biggest struggle lies in meeting the expectations of audiences accustomed to high production scales.
Highlighting the financial constraints, he said that even for a Rs 700-crore project, the actual share of producers would be around Rs 275-30 billion after taxes and other expenses are taken into account. .
The ‘Golmaal’ director said, “The audience is used to that scale and we don’t have that kind of budget, so that’s the biggest struggle we’re going through right now.” How much money will you spend? The business should not exceed 50 billion rupees, and the maximum is 70 billion rupees, but that is very rare. Even if you say 70 billion rupees, it’s not 70 billion rupees, it’s half that because it includes taxes and everything else. In reality, it will be 30 billion yen. If you have a Rs 700 million business, the business will be around Rs 275 million or the producer’s share of Rs 300 million… So we don’t have that kind of budget… It’s not true that we don’t have a big budget, even if we have technicians and actors who can perform stunts, and even if we don’t have actresses who can perform those kinds of stunts, we have everything. It’s just that we don’t have enough budget. Looking at Minami Sangyo, I take my hat off to them for taking such big risks as KGF and Kantara. They took that risk to make such a big movie, and I know how hard it was to make this movie on such a limited budget, and I take my hat off to them for their efforts. . They made these movies with that belief, spent a ton of money for a small market, and I understand it’s all over. ”
Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Again’ is scheduled to release on the occasion of Independence Day.
